In addition, the family greatly appreciated his investigation into his father's service during the Second World War. He enjoyed researching his Austrian and German heritage, passing along his passion for the culture to the next generation of his family. He shared his passions with his family, from boating and locomotives to Door County with Al Johnson's Swedish pancakes and meatballs. ![]() Tom's impact was greatest on his many nieces and nephews who often saw Uncle Tom cheering on the sidelines or sitting in the audience at their innumerable sports games, athletic competitions, concerts, recitals and theatre productions, and depended upon him for their college dormitory move-ins and -outs, whether in South Bend, Beloit, Dubuque, Madison, or Chicago. He relished his role as an educator, volunteering with Junior Achievement and Business World in addition to tutoring his niece and nephew.
